Capturing Love at Home: A Heartwarming Newborn Session & How To Make the Most Out of It

Last Friday evening, I had the absolute pleasure of visiting a beautiful home in Seattle for Baby V's newborn session. The timing was impeccable—an hour before sunset, which, in the extended daylight of Seattle's late spring, created the most enchanting glow. This family’s home was a photographer’s dream, with expansive windows that welcomed a flood of natural light. The soft, white curtains acted as perfect diffusers, casting a gentle, even light throughout the space.

Our session took place in several rooms, each offering a unique and intimate backdrop. The nursery, lovingly decorated, provided a cozy and personal setting for some of our shots. Baby V, peaceful and content, was a natural in front of the camera. An unexpected highlight was the family dog, whose adorable antics brought an extra layer of charm and joy to the photos. This little furball’s presence completed the family portrait in the sweetest way.

In addition to capturing Baby V's serene moments, I was fortunate to witness and photograph some truly beautiful candid interactions between the parents. The genuine love and connection they shared were evident in every glance and touch, creating a warm and heartfelt atmosphere that shone through in the images. These candid moments added an extra dimension to the session, showcasing not just the new addition to their family, but also the deep bond and affection that surrounded him.

For parents considering an at-home newborn session, this experience offers some valuable insights. Here are a few tips to ensure your session is just as successful:

  • Ample Lighting: Choose a room with plenty of natural light. Large windows and light, diffusing curtains are ideal.

  • Timing: Schedule the session for a time when the light is softest—usually an hour before sunset. I'm always available for consultations to help you pick the perfect time.

  • Props: Have your favorite toys, décor, and any other props ready. Personal touches make your photos more meaningful.

  • Baby’s Comfort: Make sure your little one is well-fed and comfortable. A content baby makes for a smoother, more enjoyable session.

I hope these tips help you prepare for your newborn session. It’s always a joy to capture these precious moments, and I look forward to helping more families document their love and connection in the comfort of their homes. If you’re in Seattle or the surrounding area, I’d be honored to photograph your beautiful family, just as I did for Baby V and his delightful family.
